ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11 SEPTEMBER 2022
The City's commitment to improving the lives of residents in ward 23 was outlined during a Mayoral Imbizo where the community interacted with eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda.
Residents highlighted housing, unemployment, refuse collection, sewage, and a lack of recreational facilities and schools in the community as some of the key challenges.
The Mayoral Imbizo was held at the Siripat Sports Grounds in Reservoir Hills today, 11 September.
Responding to questions posed by residents, eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda said the Municipality is committed to resolving these challenges.
“ We have recently concluded allocating the soon-to-be-built houses to residents of Banana City and Mgudulu informal settlements. All the necessary supply chain processes have been completed and a contractor has been appointed. We will resume construction of houses this coming week,” said Mayor Kaunda.
He also cautioned residents against embarking on violent public protests and the damaging of Municipal infrastructure.
“ People have a right to protest but they should do so responsibly. Some of the issues that we were unable to resolve today, we have committed that we will return to the community to respond to them in two weeks,” added Mayor Kaunda.
