Ushaka Pulls a Hat Trick of Awards
UShaka Marine World continues to prove that it is one of the best attractions in the country. In recent days, uShaka Marine World, which incorporates the Wet ‘n Wild and Seaworld experiences, received three top accolades.
The awards were:
•Third place as the Coolest Local Entertainment place in the Sunday Times Generation next annual ceremony held in Sandton. This award is won in a public voting process in which South African youth vote. Sun City took a first place, and Gold Reef City took second position.
•Won the Highly Commended Employer of Choice Award in the Public Sector category at the Future HR Awards, held in Sandton. Competitors in this category included Air Traffic Navigation Services, COEGA Development Corporation, Rand Water, and Botswana Community Regulatory Authority.
•Won Top Municipality Award in the annual Standard Bank Top Business Awards, competing against the Durban ICC.
Philip Sithole, Deputy City Manager for Economic Development and Cluster in eThekwini Municipality praised the strong leadership and board management at uShaka Marine World for maintaining the facility’s high standards.
“Without them, uShaka wouldn’t be where it is today, and still continuing to grow and attracting international tourists. We also want to thank the continuous engagement of the patrons who also ensure the sustainability of the entity,” he said.
Sithole said uShaka continued to play a significant role in attracting visitors from around the world to the City, which in return increases revenue and sustains the economy.
Dr Stella Khumalo, Chief Executive Officer of uShaka Marine World, said the awards were a great accolade not just for uShaka, but for eThekwini Municipality as well.
“It was the City that had the vision to invest in uShaka Marine World, using it as a catalyst for growth in the area. Even after more than 15 years, it is a great pat on the back to receive these awards, as it means that we are doing it right, and the City made a good investment,” said Dr Khumalo.
She added that the awards were also an acknowledgment of the dedication displayed by the work done by uShaka’s 500 staff members, who despite challenging economic conditions still put on a smile and give guests the “The unlimited fun” that is promised to visitors.
