Umngeni Taxi Rank Receives Makeover As City Closes Transport Month

ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UMNGENI TAXI RANK RECEIVES MAKEOVER AS CITY CLOSES TRANSPORT MONTH

AS PART of Transport Month activities, the City’s Waste Management Directorate led a major clean-up operation at the Umgeni Taxi Rank holding area.

The clean-up held earlier this week was supported by the following Municipal Directorates; Business Support, Environmental Health Quality Control, Supply Side and Area Based Operations, Recreation and Parks, and the eThekwini Transport Authority.

The initiative aimed to restore cleanliness in the busy transport hub while promoting responsible waste management among drivers and commuters.

The operation included a high-pressure wash of the area, targeting grime to improve hygiene and public health conditions.

Mechanical sweepers were used to clear built-up debris, while teams conducted manual sweeping to ensure no litter was left behind.

To encourage ongoing cleanliness, street litter bins were strategically placed around the taxi holding area, making it easier for taxi operators to dispose of waste responsibly.

The clean-up forms part of the City’s broader commitment to maintaining clean and safe public transport spaces and fostering environmental awareness.

The City urges drivers and commuters to use the provided bins to dispose of their litter.
