Two fatalities following collapse of a retaining wall

TWO FATALITIES FOLLOWING COLLAPSE OF A RETAINING WALL
 
The City’s Search and Rescue team together with Metro Police swiftly responded to an urgent call from a house in Phoenix, to attend to a retaining wall which had collapsed.
 
The retaining wall, which was still under construction, collapsed this morning, 29 March, around 11am. 
 
Two African males were on-site carrying out the construction work when the incident occurred. 
 
The City’s emergency team quickly responded to rescue the two workers who were trapped inside the collapsed wall. 
 
Unfortunately the duo, aged 27 and 31 years old, died on the scene.
 
The matter has been referred to South African Police Service (SAPS)  for further investigation. 
 
Further details will be communicated once the investigation is completed.
