FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STREETLIGHT REPLACEMENT PROGRAMME ILLUMINATES M4
EThekwini Municipality maintains that a well-lit city is a safer city.
In line with this commitment, the Energy Management Directorate recently replaced about 60 streetlight poles along the M4 north corridor near Blue Lagoon.
This is a key route that supports both commuter and freight traffic.
Over time, several streetlight poles in the vicinity had shown signs of wear and corrosion, posing both safety and reliability concerns.
The Directorate’s dedicated teams removed the aged poles and installed brand new, durable replacements, further enhancing the infrastructure by fitting each with 250-watt LED lights.
These modern fixtures are not only brighter and more energy-efficient, but also require less maintenance, contributing to a more sustainable and safer urban environment.
This work is part of a broader citywide effort to improve public lighting infrastructure.
The Municipality has identified several streetlights across the City with deteriorating supporting infrastructure.
Teams from the Energy Management Directorate will progressively attend to these areas to enhance visibility and safety.
The Directorate remains committed to enhancing public lighting systems, reinforcing the principle that effective illumination not only improves safety but also supports community confidence and quality of life.
The streetlight replacement programme is ongoing.
