Southern Sun and Durban Tourism Shine Spotlight On Durban's Summer Revival

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTHERN SUN AND DURBAN TOURISM SHINE SPOTLIGHT ON DURBAN’S SUMMER REVIVAL

Southern Sun is turning up the heat this summer with the launch of its annual SunBreaks campaign, calling travellers to rediscover South Africa’s coastal jewel- Durban.

Where sun-kissed beaches, diverse cuisines, and vibrant culture converge, Durban is once again stepping into the spotlight as the ultimate summer destination.

In partnership with Durban Tourism, the hospitality group is embracing a renewed approach to destination storytelling—one that celebrates not just Durban’s stunning shoreline but its dynamic soul. From surfing the waves to exploring the countryside, township tours to rooftop cocktails, Durban is evolving beyond the beach to showcase a city rich in experiences and reinvention.

Supporting this vision, Durban Tourism recently launched its Summer Season Campaign under the inspiring theme, "Visit Durban: Endless Waves of Tranquillity." The City is pulling out all the stops to ensure an unforgettable summer, further cementing its reputation as South Africa’s premier holiday hotspot—offering endless opportunities for relaxation, adventure, and cultural discovery.

“Durban is having a comeback moment,” said Samantha Croft, Southern Sun’s Operations Director for the KwaZulu-Natal region. “It’s no longer just a place to relax; it’s a city to experience. From our hotels along the Golden Mile to our properties inland, we are seeing a new generation of travellers who are curious, connected, and eager to explore everything Durban has to offer.”

Through this SunBreaks offer, Southern Sun aims to make planning a coastal escape more accessible-and more rewarding-for South Africans. Guests can enjoy savings on stays between 1 December 2025 and 11 January 2026, with every qualifying booking entering them into a competition to win a dream trip to the iconic Paradise Sun, in partnership with Savanna.

Durban Tourism’s ongoing investments in events, culture, and accessibility continue to generate momentum for the destination. With daily flights from major cities and a packed calendar of international concerts, food festivals, and sporting events, Durban is asserting itself as South Africa’s summer capital.

Throughout the festive season, Durban will host a series of exciting precinct activations—including the City Street Carnival, dazzling Christmas lighting displays, the re-ignition of major hotel celebrations, and spectacular fireworks on New Year’s Eve—creating a lively and festive atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

To further elevate the buzz, Durban Tourism and Southern Sun will be hosting summer media activation, highlighting the exciting plans and experiences in store. This initiative aims to engage media outlets both locally and nationally, showcasing the vibrant and fun-filled summer that awaits in Durban.

As Southern Sun continues to enhance its Durban portfolio, the partnership with Durban Tourism underscores a shared commitment to the growth and future of tourism in the region.

Durban is more than just a destination; it’s a feeling—and this summer, Southern Sun and Durban Tourism invite South Africans to come and experience it once again.

“Durban offers more than beautiful beaches,” addedWinile Mntungwa, Deputy Director of Durban Tourism. “It’s a city alive with rhythm, resilience, and reinvention. Together with Southern Sun, we are showcasing that energy to inspire travellers to see Durban through a new lens.”

“Come and rediscover the rhythm of the coast, the warmth of its people, and the magic that makes Durban come alive. Book your SunBreaks getaway at southernsun.com because this summer, the best stories start in Durban,” Croft concludes.
