Refuse Collection Commences In Umlazi
EThekwini Municipality has commenced with the removal of waste in uMlazi. About 21 Municipal trucks began collecting waste in the area on Monday 1 July.
This comes after the City’s ongoing efforts to address waste collection disruptions in uMlazi. The Municipality has subsequently took a decision to utilise the in-house service for refuse collection until permanent staff is appointed.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala announced to uMlazi residents over the weekend during a community engagement meeting on waste collection challenges.
The Municipality is presently in the process of advertising positions to employ uMlazi residents as permanent employees to undertake refuse removal after a period of unrest in the area.
Head of Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit Raymond Rampersad said: “The clean-ups have begun. We will start by removing the heavy loads of refuse that is mainly on the streets and then at a later stage we will start to adhere to the day to day schedule of collecting on various sections of the township.”
The City once again wishes to apologise profusely to residents for the inconvenience caused. Residents are urged to work with the City on it efforts to afford them a clean and healthy environment.
