Rediscover Durban Summer 2020 And Create New Memories

The City of Durban is rolling out its Rediscover Durban Summer 2020 campaign. The campaign highlights a list of “New” Durban filled activities; such as a gem of beach sites and new virtual lifestyle events that are lined up for the summer season. It also includes dining and entertainment in local fine restaurants as the landscape (extension of the beach promenade) and product offering evolves as well as the introduction of new products like township and nightlife experience during the Covid-19 era.

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda commented, “Durban is the ultimate holiday destination for the entire family and having entered the summer season we are encouraging visitors and locals to try new products that are available in our tourism sector.”

“Earlier in October, Durban saw the opening of the long-awaited Umhlanga Arch, a concept which was introduced to the public four years ago.

The first phase of this mixed-use development, with its iconic architectural design, was officially launched with the Legacy Yard food court and retail space and the rooftop bar, Backyard, welcoming their first customers while further entrenching Durban as South Africa’s culinary destination of choice,” Kaunda concluded.

In bid to bring more visitors to our city and to promote the City’s products, Durban Tourism will be hosting summer activations in Gauteng to compete for a slice of the highly contested domestic tourism sector. This roadshow kicks off with a networking session with targeted Tourism Industry Trade; Media and corporate businesses followed by a series of activations in Fourways and Soweto.

Winile Mntungwa, eThekwini Municipality Deputy Head for Durban Tourism, added, “As Durban we offer the perfect blend of tourism products and experiences that can be enjoyed by various markets and that is what makes us a top tourism destination. This summer we call on our visitors to enjoy and rediscover Durban Summer as we continue to fight the scourge of this pandemic. After the hard lockdown, we have seen an increased interest in outdoor activities such as hiking and exploration of nature reserves and guided tours; showing the depths of the tourism spectrum.”
