Public Consultations Underway for Draft Informal Economy Policy

A series of regional consultations with the informal sector are underway to ensure their views are documented in the draft 2022-2028 Informal Economy Policy.

A consultation will be held at the Ottawa Community Hall tomorrow, 11 May from 9 am.


IsiZulu and English copies of the draft policy can be accessed on the City’s website: www.durban.gov.za or via the following links: https://bit.ly/3yo2kso and https://bit.ly/3yo2kso.


Those who are unable to attend the consultations can forward written comments /representations. Representations of the draft policy will only be considered valid if the full names, identity number, physical address, contact details, and interest of the author is recorded fully. Submissions can be placed, with the required information, into the comments box located at reception, Durban City Hall, Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street, Durban by 27 May.

The consultations aim to ensure that the informal economy is given a voice on policy which will regulate their working environment. The key purpose of these meetings is to create support mechanisms and an enabling environment by outlining the City’s business support services for informal activities as well as entrepreneurs seeking assistance.

• KwaMashu G section Hall, 12 May.

• New Germany Hall, 18 May.

• Lotus Park Community Hall, 20 May.

• Jewish Hall North Beach, 25 May. 


All consultations begin at 9am.
