New Developments on The Recent Attachment Of City Assets And Legal Action Challenging Appointment Of Metro Police Head
ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
15 September 2022
The City's former service provider that had the City's assets attached, mainly from the Electricity Unit, has returned the assets.
This after the City was refused the leave to appeal a matter where the Durban High Court ordered the City to pay this company after it contended that its services were terminated unfairly.
The company returned all assets seized with half the costs of both the sheriff and storage.
The City would also like to inform the public that it has been vindicated by the Labour Court in a matter regarding the appointment of its Head of Metro Police Steve Middleton. This followed the Bargaining Council's ruling in favour of some members of the Metro Police who opposed this appointment.
Their gripe was that the appointment process was flawed and that Middleton did not qualify to head Metro Police. The Bargaining Council, based on the evidence before it, saw it fit to grant an order to the effect that the City must promote Middleton to the position of Head of Metro Police and be remunerated accordingly with all the perks of the position.
The City welcomes these new developments and vows to permanently subscribe to the rule of law.
