More City Services Resume

NEWSFLASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

16 July 2021

EThekwini Municipality resumed some services to the community from today with the recommencement of public transport and some units opening their doors to the public. Even more are expected to be up and running by next week.
Water and Sanitation

EThekwini Water and Sanitation’s call centre is now operational, although it is still operating with a skeleton staff. We appeal to customers to be patient as their calls may not be responded to promptly given the high call volumes and limited staff capacity. For more information and water supply related enquiries, residents can contact the call centre on 080 131 3013 or EWS WhatsApp number: 073 1483 477.

Beaches
EThekwini Central and Southern Beaches are closed to the public until further notice. This is because the shark nets are not being serviced due to the unrest.

The beaches north of the Umgeni estuary up to the Tongaat River are also closed due to the contamination of the uMhlanga estuary. The public will be advised when it is safe to use the beaches.

Development and Planning
All Development and Planning offices, including those in Sizakala Centres, opened today. However, the offices are operating with skeleton staff.

Human Settlements
All public facing offices of the Human Settlements Unit are expected to open in the CBD, regional offices and Sizakala Centres from Monday 19th July.

Sizakala Customer Service Centres
The Sizakala Customer Centres resumed operation today. All offices were open except for centres at Umlazi Mega City, KwaMnyandu, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu. These centres were destroyed during the unrest. The Craigieburn Centre has limited services available.
Service may be slow as the centres are still operating with skeleton staff. We urge customer to ensure that they comply with the COVID protocols when visiting the centres. Centres will be open from 07h30 – 16h00.

Durban Fresh Produce Market
The Durban Fresh Produce Market has opened its doors for trading as from today, 16 July. Normal trading hours apply. Buyers and residents can visit the market to get their produce tomorrow between 05h00 to 09h30. The market will be closed on Sunday.

Public Transport
The Municipal bus service resumed operations on Friday, 16 July with a limited service operating in areas which are considered low risk. A minimal service will continue over the weekend. The Municipality is working on introducing a full service from next week depending on risk levels.

Durban Transport Operations as of tomorrow include the following:

The People Mover will operate its inner-city route.
Central – A service will be provided from Musgrave to the Inner City
Durban North – Buses will run from Ntuzuma to KwaMahsu, Gateway, Cornubia and La Lucia, Durban CBD and Pinetown, Westmead, New Germany and Mariannhill.

Durban South – Buses will run from Umlazi to Durban CBD, Pinetown, Gateway and La Lucia. A service will also be provided from Rossburgh to Durban Glebelands and Bluff.
Clinics & vaccination sites

Several of the City’s healthcare facilities opened today, 16 July with limited services offered due to staff shortages. These clinics were opened only for emergencies and for the collection of chronic medication. The Municipality’s clinics generally don’t operate on the weekend and will resume their operation on Monday.

Moses Mabhida People’s Park vaccination site will open on the weekend and residents who are eligible to receive the vaccine can visit the site.

The rest of the community vaccination sites will remain closed on the weekend and the City is hopeful that these sites will be operating from next week.

Registration is now open for residents aged 35-49 years, and those aged 50 years and above will also continue to receive their vaccine.
