Mayoral Beachfront Walkabout to Assess Progress on New Investment Project in The Beachfront and State of Readiness to Host Visitors During the Easter Weekend

Durban’s beachfront has always been a prime attraction that has kept the City as the number one domestic tourist destination. The City has invested millions of Rand in developing and maintaining this key asset that contributes significantly to the local tourism sector, job creation and the economy.

As we approach the Easter weekend, the media are invited to join Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda on a walkabout of the Durban beachfront aimed at showcasing how the city is investing in this prime asset to make it competitive with the best in the world, ensuring that tourists have a memorable stay in our city, whilst still creating employment. This investment in the beachfront and inner city aligns with the Economic Recovery Plan which focuses on reinvigorating the domestic tourism sector, which was highly impacted during the Covid-19 restrictions.

Mayor Kaunda will announce how this public space management contract is filling the gap to ensure that the beachfront is kept in pristine condition throughout the year while creating jobs for 95 local community members.

The Mayor will also outline the state of readiness of the city to host visitors during the Easter Holidays while observing the COVID-19 protocols.

The media are invited to attend the briefing.

Details are as follows:
