FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mayor to Unveil a Cooperative Bakery Facility
In a quest to encourage entrepreneurship, promote small enterprises and address socio economic challenges in rural and township areas, eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede will unveil a new bakery facility for a KwaMashu Cooperative on Monday, 29 April at KwaMashu M-Section.
The facility is donated by the Municipality to Vuka Uyibambe Cooperative, consisting of five young women. The donation comes after the cooperative was given a brand new industrial bakery equipment during the North Regional Business Fair at Bridge City Mall in August last year.
The R1 million bakery facility will include two measure scales, mixer, proofer used to warm dough, oven, bread slicer and a stand. The machine is able to produce wedding cakes, pizza and about 1000 loaves of bread.
This facility is expected to open many opportunities for these budding entrepreneurs as they have already started fielding requests to supply bakery goods for supermarkets and retail shops in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu areas. The facility is one of the City’s many projects which aim to unlock the potential of small businesses, co-operatives, township and rural enterprises and recognise these sectors as meaningful contributors to the mainstream economy.
EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede will be accompanied by dignitaries from the private sector, retail shops management, senior officials from the City and local authorities, where she will shed light on the developments made by the Municipality in creating an enabling environment for cooperatives as directed by Radical Economic Transformation Framework.
