Mayor to Announce Burial Assistance to Families That Lost Loved Ones During Recent Heavy Rains

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede will today meet and offer assistance to bereaved families after five people lost their lives when they were washed away during the recent heavy rain in Durban. She will also hand-over food hampers worth thousands of rands to the families.

This humanitarian gesture is as a result of some of the families being unable to bury their loved ones with dignity. In the spirit of Ubuntu, the City has seen it as of paramount importance that it land a hand in this time of need.

Reports indicate that Thembinkosi Gcabashe (42), Asanda Ngalonkulu (29) and Snenhloso Ngalonkulu were in their home at Amaoti when it was washed away during the heavy rains. The other deceased are Thobelani Ngcobo (35) and Matofhi Shabane (67) who died in separate incidents.
