Mayor to Address Concerns of Umlazi Community

In an effort to address the various service delivery issues facing the community of Umlazi, Mayor Zandile Gumede is currently conducting a series of consultative meetings with the community to find lasting solutions to the challenges.

In recent months the community of Umlazi has faced disruption of services in waste removal, service delivery protests, destroying of Municipal infrastructure and other related issues. In response to these challenges, Mayor Gumede tasked senior Municipal officials to come up with innovative strategies to combat these issues and ensure that service delivery is prioritised. Some of the strategies already implemented include the provision of security for water tankers to areas affected by water shortage and for personnel collecting waste.

She is currently visiting various areas in Umlazi to interact with members of the community to get feedback and ascertain whether the interventions implemented are working.

The consultative meetings are conducted under the Masakhane Community Outreach Programme. Wards to be part of this week’s consultative meeting include 78, 79, 80, 81, 82; 83. After the conclusion of the meetings in Umlazi, Mayor Gumede will visit other areas within the Municipal area to conduct a similar exercise.
