Mayor Kaunda wishes Nzuza well as he welcomes new acting city manager and CFO

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda has thanked the outgoing City Manager Sipho Nzuza after both parties parted ways at the end of June by mutual agreement.

The Mayor wished Nzuza well in his future endeavors and commended him for working with the current leadership in building a stable and people-centred municipality.

Mayor Kaunda also welcomed the new Acting City Manager, Mr. Musa Mbhele, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer for the Municipality. “Given his wealth of experience in local government, Mbhele will ensure that the city continues to render quality services to the people of eThekwini and, most importantly, stabilise the economy adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Kaunda.

Mbhele, who will act for a period of three months, takes over from Mr Sipho Cele who has returned to his post as Deputy City Manager for Governance and International Relations. The Mayor commended Cele for steering the city’s ship in the right direction and stabilising the administration. “Under his supervision, the city was able to fill all critical posts at top management level,” said Kaunda.

Kaunda also thanked the Head of the City Hall Administration Unit Ms. Adele Seheri, for holding the fort in the Governance Cluster while Cele was the Acting City Manager.

The month of June also saw the retirement of the Municipality’s long-serving Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Dr Krish Kumar, who has been with the city for 40 years. “As the CFO for 20 years, he worked diligently to ensure that the city always obtains an unqualified audit opinion. He has also been part of the team that developed a turnaround strategy to reduce the city’s irregular expenditure by more than 50% in the previous financial year. As the city, we wish him well in his retirement,” added Kaunda.

The new CFO, Mr. Sandile Mnguni, who assumed his duties today, has hit the ground running as the city begins the new financial year. Kaunda congratulated Mnguni and welcomed him back into the city’s administration. Mnguni has worked for Ithala Development Finance Corporation as the CFO and was previously the eThekwini Municipality Head of Expenditure. He has also worked as Senior Manager at the Auditor-General South Africa. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and holds a B.Com Honours in Accounting, an MBA and B.Tech Degree in Cost Management and Accounting.
