Mayor Kaunda to lead city leadership to assess impact of storm damage

MAYOR KAUNDA TO LEAD CITY LEADERSHIP TO ASSESS IMPACT OF STORM DAMAGE
 
An urgent meeting was convened by eThekwini Municipality Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda at the Disaster Management Centre this morning, 15 January 2023, to receive a preliminary report from senior City officials after the weekend’s storm which wreaked havoc in some parts of the City.
 
The northern part of the City was the hardest hit including areas such as uMhlanga, Verulam, uThongathi and Phoenix. Other reported areas that were affected in the south include uMlazi, Chatsworth and Folweni.
 
At this stage, six fatalities have been confirmed in the City, while two people have been reported missing. 
 
Mayor Kaunda will lead the City leadership as they travel the length and breadth of the City to visit bereaved families and assess the extent of damage.
 
Members of the media are invited to the visit as follows:
Date: Monday, 15 January 2024
Venue: Zwelitsha Community Hall, Ottawa in Verulam to visit bereaved family, thereafter the City leadership will proceed to Umhlanga to assess damage in affected areas and later assess uThongathi Water Treatment Plant.
