MAYOR KAUNDA SENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF MANDLA "MAMPINTSHA" MAPHUMULO
EThekwini Municipality Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda has learnt with shock the news of the untimely passing of one member of popular Durban Kwaito Music group, Big NUZ, Mandla Maphumulo affectionately known as Mampintsha.
Over the years, the award-winning Mampintsha played a significant role in putting Durban on the map as he was one of few artists that believed Durban is a musical mecca. He demonstrated this by opting to return home after a short stint in Johannesburg.
Together with Mzi ‘Danger’ Tshomela and the late Sbusiso ‘R Mashesha’ Khomo, the trio were ardent ambassadors of Durban through their music. The news of Mandla’s passing comes as fans were celebrating Big NUZ's comeback with their banger tune “Ngeke Ngivume”, a contender of the song of the year on Ukhozi FM.
Mayor Kaunda said he believes that one of the meaningful ways to honour the fallen musical genius is to continue supporting the creative industry as it is one of the key drivers of the economy.
The mayor sends sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mandla Maphumulo. "We must find comfort in the fact that he left an indelible mark in the creative sector," he said.
