Mayor Kaunda To Conduct Site Visit Of 800 Million Worth Midway Crossing Shopping Mall
Members of the media are cordially invited to join eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda as he embarks on Operation Siyahlola of the construction of the multimillion Midway Crossing Shopping Centre. This public private partnership is the first of its kind that is linked to Corridor 3 of the multibillion Go! Durban project. The latter will enable residents from townships such as Lindelani, Newlands, KwaMashu etc to move with ease to this mall.
The sod turning ceremony for the development, took place in April last year. EThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the cherry on top is that 45 percent of the mall will be owned by black business while 5 percent is owned by Dumsani Makhaye Community Trust. It comprises different shareholders including women, disabled people, youth and military veterans.
“Gone are the days when our people are only spectators. This time are around they will have slice of the big cake. We are proud that our city has taken an aggressive stance to advance the agenda of the Radical Economic Transformation. So, we have therefore seen it as of paramount importance that we inspect the progress that is being made to date” said Kaunda
Located between Lindelani and Newlands West townships, this initiative is expected to create more than 1 000 permanent jobs and 600 temporary jobs during the contraction phase.
