Kaunda Commended Progress Of Backlogged Disciplinary Cases
EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda has commended the progress made by the city in dealing with the backlog of disciplinary cases.
Speaking at the sitting of the Special Executive Committee meeting held today, 29 March 2021, Kaunda explained that when the current leadership took the reins in 2019, there was a backlog of cases related to mismanagement, fraud, corruption.
A turnaround strategy was to fast-track the process of the investigations and disciplinary hearings.
As of February, this year, there has been a considerable progress I reducing the backlog of outstanding cases. The backlog of cases as of 31 October 2019 was 335 cases consisting of both formal and informal hearings. As of the 28 February 2021, 128 of 233 formal hearings have been resolved and a total of 91 out of 102 informal hearings have been resolved.
Kaunda said that this was a notable progress considering that COVID-19 also impacted negatively in the processing of the cases. “We commend the senior management of the Municipality for speeding up this process as it will send a clear message to the public that we are committed in running a clean and responsive administration, said Kaunda.
