Kaunda Backs Durban Heat
WITH excitement mounting ahead of the munch anticipated 2019 edition of the Mzansi Super League T20, eThekwini Municipality Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has thrown his weight behind the local outfit, the Durban Heat.
This morning Mayor Kaunda received his framed Durban Heat jersey from Cricket South Africa Head of Media and Communications Thamsanqa Mthembu, Durban Heat Chief Executive Officer Heinrich Strydom and the President of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union Ben Dladla.
“I was honoured to host the team and they presented us with a jersey as a token of appreciation and as a symbol of strengthening the relationship with the City. As the City we will continue to support them as we understand that sport is one of the critical tools in creating social cohesion, bring about peace in our society and also confronting all the social ills that are faced by the young people,” said Kaunda.
The Team also brought the Mzansi Super League T20 trophy which is designed in a flower pattern to resemble the National Flower, the Protea.
The Chief Executive Officer of the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union and Durban Heat Heinrich Strydom said that they were excited to receive Mayor's backing ahead of this crucial tournament.
The tournament will run from 08 November to 16 December with the opening encounter between the Durban Heat and the Tswane Spartans taking place on 09 November at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium.
