FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Invitation to the Public Meeting for the Upgrade and Development of the Rivertown Precinct
EThekwini Municipality is ready to move forward with the next phase of the proposed multimillion rand Rivertown Precinct.
The Rivertown precinct lies to the east of Durban CBD, between the City’s International Convention Centre (ICC) and Durban’s beachfront, and the area has been identified as a catalytic project for growth and development in the region, specifically linking the ICC and the beachfront.
The area is characterised by a canal that runs along John Milne Street, giving rise to the name “Rivertown”.
The City’s vision is to regenerate the area with a mix between creative and commercial ventures such as private galleries, small theatres, restaurants and other entertainment venues, forging a cultural precinct that would offer local and international tourists a unique Durban, and KZN, experience.
EThekwini Municipality invites the media, and affected businesses, property owners, stakeholders, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to a public meeting to discuss the Rivertown Precinct upgrade.
The meeting will provide participants with information regarding the upgrading and development within the precinct and provide opportunity for the parties to engage with the implementation process.
As part of the public participation process, you are invited to review the background information document and attend the information meeting.
This document will be available at the meeting and for review at the following public places:
• EThekwini Economic Development and Planning Cluster, The Platform, Lion Match Complex, 892 Umgeni Rd, Durban, or
