Handover of Durban’s Transformative River Management Programme
ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4 JULY 2022
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda invites the media to the handover of the Transformative River Management Programme (TRMP) at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) on 7 July at 2pm.
A tour of the project will be conducted on 8 July at 8am. The meeting point is the Durban ICC.
The C40 City Finance Facility (CFF) has actively supported eThekwini Municipality in developing the TRMP over the past four years.
The TRMP is a 10 to 15-year programme which invests in the City’s rivers as a core component of transformative adaptation. This will help to mitigate the impacts of climate change (including increased flood events), upscale job creation and skills development, and build stronger communities and implementation partnerships.
The significance of this project is global in nature and is a lighthouse for many cities facing similar challenges. This handover comes at a time when eThekwini Municipality and the broader KwaZulu-Natal province are in the process of rebuilding lives and the economy following the recent floods.
