Georgedale and Cato Ridge Water Supply System Interruption
Residents whose water is supplied from the Cato Ridge and Georgedale reservoirs are advised that there will be a water shut down from 17h00 today (13/01/2020) until 06h00 tomorrow (14/01/2020).
This will be done in order to supplement supply to Cato Ridge Reservoir from the new Western Aqueduct, where a new 800mm diameter steel trunk main has been constructed from point X to Cato ridge reservoir. A tie-in into the existing 600mm diameter main is scheduled to take place tonight. To execute this tie-in, it is imperative that a 600mm diameter trunk main supplying Cato Ridge and Georgedale reservoirs be completely drained prior the contractor commences with fabrication work.
The following areas will be affected;
1. Georgedale Reservoir zone
- Georgedale
- Mpumalanga
- Hammersdale
- Mandlakazi
- Shongweni
- Ntshongweni
- Zwelibomvu
- Salem
- Ofudu
- Inwabi
- Ngonyameni
2. Cato Ridge Reservoir Zone
- Cato Ridge
- Ntukuso
- Kwaximba
- Assimang
3. Abattoir Reservoir Zone
- Part of Kwaximba
- Emadeleni
The relevant department has identified critical reservoirs which will mostly go empty first. These include all reservoir downstream of Shongweni reservoir as follows;
- Shongweni reservoir
- Zwelibomvu reservoir
- Ofudu reservoir
- Salem reservoir
- Inwabi reservoir
- Ngonyameni reservoir
In addition to this list will be the Kwaximba Break Pressure Tanks, from DV1816 to DV1822.
Please note that water tankers will be dispatched to all affected areas.
