25 September 2021

The 14 uniquely Durban businesses that are part of the first phase of the #BuyLocal, Invest Local Campaign were announced at a campaign seminar held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre yesterday, 25 June.

The #BuyLocal, Invest Local Campaign was launched in October last year. It forms part of the City’s Economic Recovery Plan to drive economic growth amid the Covid-19 pandemic to help rebuild small to medium businesses.

Officially opening the hybrid event, eThekwini Speaker Councillor Weziwe Thusi said the City needs to pursue the drive for locally produced products.

“It is imperative that the City supports local businesses and creates awareness among big business, investors and consumers alike of the many locally produced products available.”

The #BuyLocal, Invest Local Campaign called for uniquely Durban businesses to apply for support to market their products. There was an overwhelming response from businesses and following a rigorous selection criterion, a diverse group of local businesses have been selected during the first round.

The businesses are:
● Afri Itech
● Beauty for Ashes
● Specpro Precision Engineering
● VirtuProp SA
● House of Incense
● Thutha Online
● Amanquhe Data Doctors
● Alude Arts
● Zinakes Sons Projects
● Lou Harvey
● Van Der Mthembu Poultry
● Cabrito Cuts
● Agri Urb
● Pixie Pro Paints

The full profile of the selected businesses can be found on the Municipal website. The businesses will also be profiled on Municipal social media platforms over the coming weeks.

EThekwini residents are encouraged to post pictures displaying their support for local businesses and doing their bit to stimulate the local economy.
