EThekwni Mayor Mourns The Loss Of A Metro Policeman In A Driveby Shooting
EThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has condemned the killing of Inspector Nhlanhla Maphumulo while he was driving along R 102 South Bound between Canelands and Verulam, North of Durban on Monday afternoon, 03 February 2020.
It is alleged that an unknown vehicle driving in the same direction opened fire on Inspector Maphumulo’s vehicle, a Blue Toyota Corolla and he was certified dead on the scene. The 44-year-old Maphumulo joined the Municipality in the year 2000 and he was based at Verulam Station.
Kaunda has urged the police to speed up the investigation into the killing and bring those responsible to book. “Anyone who kills a police officer is attacking the authority of the state. We call upon members of the community who might have witnessed the incident to share information with the police,” said Kaunda.
The Mayor has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to family and friends of Inspector Maphumulo. Our thoughts are with the family of Inspector Maphumulo during this time of bereavement.
