After deliberations on the recommendations of the panel set up to appoint the new eThekwini Municipality City Manager, the Council took a decision not to approve the recommendation.

The recommendations came after a thorough selection process which was in line with the protocols governing the employment of senior managers in local government.

The panel comprised of the eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda, Chairperson of the Governance and Human Capital Portfolio Committee, Cllr Nkosenhle Madlala and an independent expert.

The city reiterates that the process was above board and free of any political interference. 

On Wednesday, eThekwini Municipality Mayor will outline a way forward on the process to be followed to fill the post. 

On Friday last week, the Executive Committee approved the appointment of Musa Mbhele as an Acting City Manager until the vacancy of the city manager is filled.
