The City will on Sunday, 25 October host a significant day in the Province’s anti-apartheid history, officially known as Siyabakhumbula Memorial Day, at Umgababa Resort.

KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala will deliver a key note address while ANC stalwart Dr Mishack, is expected to grace this ceremony. The Chairperson of KZN House of Traditional Leaders, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, will also be among the luminaries attending this event.

It will commence with wreath laying at the Umgababa Memorial Site by the members of Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans (MKVA) and members of families that lost their loved ones during this period.

Zikalala, will subsequently deliver a key note address at the Umgababa Resort.

EThekwini Mayor, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, said freedom did not come on a silver platter.

“We must never forget where we come from. At all times we must remember scores of freedom fighters who lost their lives for us to enjoy this freedom without expecting even a cent. Ours is to only thank them by working tirelessly to improve the well-being of the poorest of the poor who were neglected by the apartheid regime. That is all what they wanted to see happening in this country and nothing else and they paid a heavy price,” said Kaunda.

Members of the media are invited to attend and report on this important day scheduled as follows:

DATE : Sunday, 25 October 2020
