EThekwini Municipality and DUT launch renewable energies for Africa Project
The REFFECT AFRICA Project team comprising officials from the eThekwini Municipality and the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will host a hybrid event to officially launch the Renewable Energies for Africa: Effective Valorisation of Agri-Food Wastes (REFFECT AFRICA) Project. The event will be held at the Durban Botanic Gardens and online on 24 March between 10am and 12pm.
Despite the progress made to provide electricity to all households, there is still a substantial number of households without electricity. The REFFECT AFRICA Project seeks to explore using waste to generate electricity to positively contribute towards increasing the supply of electricity to households. The process will also produce a bio-fertiliser for use in farming.
The project is being carried out in three African locations: Clairwood Bulk Market in Durban, South Africa, a school and clinic in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Ghana and an olive oil mill in Dar Azzaytoune, Douar El Hachia, Morocco and is funded by a European Union grant.
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda will conduct the official launch.
Also in attendance will be the team members from both institutions who are working on the project.
The REFFECT AFRICA Project team cordially invites members of the media to attend the launch of this exciting project.
