EThekwini Municipality Committed to Give People with Disability Equal Access To Opportunities
As the world commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disability, eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda has committed the city to continue ensuring that people with disability have equal rights and access to opportunities are enjoyed by all.
Mayor Kaunda said that the Municipality remains committed to building a city that belongs to all who live in it where people have equal access to opportunities.
In our radical socio-economic transformation programme, people with disability are included as one of the designated groups. Our position is clear that a minimum of 30 percent of procurement must be allocated to women, youth, people with disabilities and military veterans. With these interventions, we want people with disabilities to fulfil their role in society and participate on an equal basis with others,β said Kaunda.
He added that people with disabilities need to be treated with respect and they must at all times feel part of society. βIn terms of the employment, we are pleased to report that the organisation has 300 people with disabilities employed at the City,β said Kaunda.
