EThekwini Municipality’s Executive Committee Members To Visit Agri-Business Projects

ETHEKWINI MEDIA INVITE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

12 SEPTEMBER 2022

EThekwini Municipality’s Executive Committee led by Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda will tomorrow, 13 September conduct an oversight visit to several Agri-business projects.

The aim is to assess progress made thus far and see how the projects can be further supported to stimulate more economic growth.

The projects are part of the Municipality’s AgriBusiness Masterplan adopted by Council in 2020 to support and unlock opportunities for local AgriSMME’s in the vegetables, sheep, poultry, cannabis and piggery commodities.

One of the success stories of this initiative is the re-opening of former Rainbow Chicken farms in Cato Ridge, which are being run mainly by youth cooperatives.

The day’s programme will commence at Cato Ridge Agri-Park Incubator, which is a chicken broiler and intensive sheep farming operation and then move to Cottonlands Agri-Park Incubator which encompasses an egg production facility, vegetable tunnel farms and veggies agro-processing facility. The delegation will conclude the visit at Ottawa Agri-Park Incubator featuring 10 vegetable tunnel farms.

Members of the media are invited to cover the oversight visit.
