EThekwini Mayor responds to complaints about electricity outages in uMbilo and surrounding areas

ETHEKWINI MAYOR RESPONDS TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT ELECTRICITY OUTAGES IN UMBILO AND SURROUNDING AREAS

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, has acknowledged receiving complaints from residents regarding frequent electricity outages affecting Umbilo and neighbouring communities. 

These disruptions have sparked concerns about potential sabotage of the area’s electricity infrastructure.

In response, Mayor Xaba has directed City Manager, Musa Mbhele, to urgently initiate a formal investigation and provide a comprehensive report.

Community grievances point to a recurring pattern of outages, often occurring at specific times during the week, raising suspicions about deliberate interference.

“Following concerns raised by members of the community, we have decided to launch an investigation,” said Mayor Xaba.

The Mayor reaffirmed his and the city’s leadership’s commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential services to all residents. 

“We would like to assure all the residents that we will get to the bottom of this and if there is evidence of any wrongdoing, those responsible will be held to account,” said Xaba.

Mayor Xaba also called on residents to assist by sharing any information that could help expedite the investigation.
