EThekwini Mayor and Minister of Home Affairs To Sign MOU To Expedite The Documentation Of Undocumented Citizens

The Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Zandile Gumede and Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Siyabonga Cwele, will today sign the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement the National Population Registration Campaign (NPRC) which aims to document all citizens in order to enhance government service delivery targets and planning priorities.

The signing ceremony is aimed at formalising the long-standing working relationship that exists between the Municipality and the Department of Home Affairs. It will strengthen intergovernmental relations and enhance service delivery to the people of South Africa.

The MOU is part of the Home Affairs Department and the City’s aggressive campaign to mobilise local councillors, ward committees, the institution of traditional leadership and local volunteers to ensure that all citizens born in the country are documented. This is believed to pave way for the state to plan appropriately for all citizens to have an equitable access to basic services.

Members of the media are invited to witness this historic ceremony and report on it.
