EThekwini Mayor Condemns Torching Of City Vehicles In Kwaximba
The eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, is appealing to the police to leave no stone unturned and arrest people that may have been behind this barbaric act.
This incident happened while eThekwini Water and Sanitation Teams (EWS) were in the area to ensure that the community has access to clean water.
In March, the City workers had to be released by the police after they were held hostage by the community.
Kaunda calls upon the members of the community to refrain from resorting to violence in the event of a hiccup to service delivery.
“It is not for the first time that we have incidents of this nature and it is very concerning. How is damaging municipal vehicles going to bring water? Worse, our workers were in the area hard at work trying to solve the problem. Our communities must refrain from unlawful conduct. Replacing these vehicles is going to cost a lot of money and the same community is likely to suffer. There is no amount of grievance that would justify resorting to violence. As a temporary measure, we have ensured that water tankers are on the ground. All we need is for the community to be patient as we are working unceasingly to return the situation to normalcy.” said Kaunda.
