ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

18 OCTOBER 2022

The City is in full gear as it prepares for one of the biggest events of the AmaZulu nation with the handover ceremony of a certificate to His Majesty, King Misuzulu.

The City’s state of readiness was presented by Community and Emergency Services Committee, Chairperson, Councillor Zama Sokhabase, to the Executive Committee during its meeting held on 18 October 2022 at City Hall.

The certificate will be presented by State President Cyril Ramaphosa to His Majesty at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 29 October 2022. The event is expected to draw thousands of both national and international visitors.

The handover ceremony follows the traditional coronation ceremony held last month.

Speaking on the report tabled at the Executive Committee Councillor Sokhabase said “This all-important ceremony will confirm the city’s reputation for hosting major events. It brings with it significant economic contributions for the city and its businesses, especially those in the hospitality sector. This will contribute to much-needed economic growth for eThekwini.”

The ceremony will also include the taking of a special oath of office administered by a designated member of the judiciary. Amabutho are expected to attend in their thousands.

Various city departments are working to ensure that the event is safe and successful.

More information and details on how residents and visitors can participate or watch the ceremony will be communicated on the various municipal platforms in the coming days.
