ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DURBAN GEARS UP FOR FIRST-EVER CYCLE SUNDAY
EThekwini Municipality will tomorrow, 26 October, host its first-ever Cycle Sunday, a dynamic event designed to promote cycling as an integral part of Durban’s transport system and encourage sustainable mobility.
Organised by eThekwini Transport Authority, through GO!Durban, the event will take place along the M4 route from Moses Mabhida Stadium to Portland Drive, uMhlanga. This first-of-its-kind event in Durban is hosted in partnership with Peschl Sports, Cycle Lab, and the Pedal Power Association.
The initiative aims to promote Non-Motorised Transport, road safety, and sustainable mobility, especially among the youth.
Cycle Sunday is more than just a ride, it’s a movement. The event will see the M4 closed to traffic from 5am to 9am, allowing cyclists to enjoy a safe, scenic route.
From 9am to 12pm, the Moses Mabhida Stadium lawns will transform into a vibrant activation zone, featuring a youth cycling track, educational experiences, and community engagement activities.
The event supports the City’s goals of reducing emissions, improving public health, and fostering inclusive, connected urban spaces.
Residents are encouraged to participate by paying an entry fee of R50 to cycle and be part of Durban’s transport transformation. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a curious beginner, Cycle Sunday offers something for everyone.
