The public is invited to attend a public engagement workshop to discuss the review of the Durban Climate Change Strategy (DCCS). The strategy was adopted by the eThekwini Municipality Council in 2015. Since then there has been a range of activities and processes undertaken in the city to respond to the risks and opportunities presented by climate change. Most recently the Council has approved Durban’s Climate Action Plan (CAP).
As it has been five years since the DCCS was adopted. The eThekwini Municipality has now initiated a process of reviewing and revising the DCCS. This review process will seek to consolidate the DCCS and the CAP into an integrated implementation and monitoring framework.
As part of this review process, stakeholder consultations were held in the early part of 2020 to discuss the process of reviewing the DCCS and secure key input from stakeholders on issues that should be reflected in the updated DCCS. Based on these comments the DCCS has now been revised.
Stakeholders are now invited to a workshop where the city will report back on the major changes that were made to the DCCS through the review process and to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to make written comment on the draft DCCS.
Due to travel and gathering restriction imposed in response to COVID-19, the workshop will take place online as follows:
