Deputy Mayor to Lead Dialogue To Create Safe Cities For Vulnerable Groups

The Deputy Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor Belinda Scott will on Thursday, 20 February 2020 engage in a dialogue with a delegation from the LEAD Support Bureau. The United States based organization works to create safe cities using police diversion and community-based systems to improve public safety and public order while upholding a city’s integrity. The engagement will include representatives from various eThekwini Departments that will focus on developing alternative ways of policing marginal and vulnerable groupings in urban spaces.

During this dialogue session, LEAD will present their approach to policing and provide some possible recommendations for how the City could respond differently to vulnerable population groupings to ensure that Durban becomes a safer place for all who reside in it. LEAD will provide a brief presentation of the approach, including where it has been done and the benefits.
