CITY CLARIFIES CLINIC ID REQUIREMENT AMID SOCIAL MEDIA CONFUSION
EThekwini Municipality has noted public concern following a social media post about a clinic notice requesting patients to bring their Identity Documents (IDs) when visiting the clinic.
The post has unfortunately been misinterpreted as suggesting that individuals without IDs are being denied access to basic healthcare services. The City would like to reassure the public that this is not the case.
As part of standard procedure, patients visiting any Municipal clinic for the first time are asked to bring their IDs solely for the purpose of opening a patient file. Once a file has been opened, patients are not required to bring their ID for future visits.
The City remains committed to providing accessible healthcare to all and encourages residents to continue using its 59 clinics to access essential health services. The public is urged not to be misled by misinformation and to contact their local clinic for any clarity regarding access procedures.
