City Dispatches Teams to Clear Fallen Trees After Strong Winds Last Night
ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 22 FEBRUARY 2024
EThekwini Municipality urges motorists to be extra vigilant due to fallen trees blocking roadways in some parts of the City after strong winds last night.
The City’s Parks, Leisure and Cemeteries Department has been notified and will be working around the clock to swiftly clear the fallen trees and minimise damage in the interest of public safety.
Affected areas include the Upper Highway, Westville, Reservoir Hills and Durban Central.
The Municipality encourages residents to keep trees on private property maintained throughout the year and to contact the Parks, Leisure and Cemeteries Department on 031 322 4000 during working hours (7am-4pm) for assistance with trees on public roads that could potentially be at risk of branches breaking, or the tree itself falling over.
For emergency assistance after hours, residents can contact the City’s 24-hour Emergency Services call centre number on 031 361 0000.
Assessments by the Disaster Management teams are continuing.
