City Calls Upon Residents to Protect Resting Places

ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

For Immediate Release

28 January 2022

EThekwini Municipality condemns the vandalism of grave sites in some areas of the municipality, including at the Heroes Acre in Chesterville, where celebrated journalist Nat Nakasa and soccer legend Senzo Meyiwa are buried.

The City appeals to all communities within the City to isolate criminals who are disrespecting the resting places of our departed.

In many cultures graves are regarded as sacred places that are respected, revered and never descrated.

Notwithstanding budget cuts in all spheres of government, the City will investigate other ways to further improve security in all its cemeteries.
