In its quest to mitigate accidents on the road and to improve safety of passengers, the City’s eThekwini Transport Authority (ETA) working with the Municipality’s private bus operators, have rolled out a safe driving programme for bus drivers. As part of the transport month activities, the refresher course is aimed at helping drivers to improve their driving skills that would help the city in its endeavour to reduce road accidents.
The programme will continue until all drivers have been trained this year. ETA will now encourage operators to provide the driving refresher course on an annual basis.
The programme covers theory and motor vehicle simulation. At the end of the course all candidates will receive a certificate of attendance and the City will monitor the drivers to check if their driving has improved. The motor vehicle training report will then be handed over to the bus operator.
