City Builds Storage Capacity For Water Supply In Klaarwater

ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
16 MAY 2023

The Klaarwater Tower Zone has started to receive water. This follows various interventions to build reservoir levels to allow the pumps to run effectively for the supply of water.

Over the past few days, there was a lower level of water in the Shallcross Reservoir tank. This tank feeds the Klaarwater Reservoir. As a result of this, pumping for water to reach areas in the elevated position (high level) was affected.

The City’s Water Operations team worked tirelessly to balance the system. This included closing off the Klaarwater Reservoir outlet at night to build required water levels for the pumps to the tower to run efficiently and fill up to supply affected areas.

Water supply has been restored in other areas. However, it must be noted that full system recovery is dependent on demand patterns.
Teams will continue to monitor the system and recommend any further initiatives to stabilise the system if necessary.

Affected areas include:
• Crossmoor
• Klaarwater
• Savannah Park
• Shallcross
• St Wendolins Ridge

The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused.
