City’s water and sanitation unit to launch reinvented toilets

ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
24 FEBRUARY 2024

CITY’S WATER AND SANITATION UNIT TO LAUNCH REINVENTED TOILETS

EThekwini Municipality’s quest to provide decent sanitation to all communities is progressing well. This follows the recent completion of Reinvented Toilets as part of innovative sanitation technologies.

Innovative sanitation technologies aim to improve sanitation services in areas of the City that are outside of the sewer reticulation network and where it is not possible in the short and medium-term to connect conventional wastewater treatment works.

The City will on Wednesday, 26 February launch these Reinvented Toilets which provide an on-site sanitation processing system that is environmentally friendly, dignified, and climate resilient.

This project is part of the South African Sanitation Technology Enterprise Program (SASTEP), a collaborative technology accelerator programme funded by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Gates Foundation. It is implemented by the Water Research Commission (WRC) to explore and develop innovative solutions for sanitation provision.

The media is invited to cover the launch of the project taking place as follows:

Date: 26 February 2025
Time: 10am
Venue: Pholani Informal Settlement- La Mercy

To RSVP, kindly WhatsApp Senior Communications Officer Siphelele Buthelezi on 061 860 7002 by 25 February.
