City’s Zero Tolerance On Land Invader
ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
20 JUNE 2025
The City condemns the attempted land invasion which took place in uMlazi, adjacent to the uMlazi Comprehensive Technical High School today, 20 June. The City took immediate action after receiving complaints from the community regarding the land invasion. Officials visited the invaded area where they formally warned the invaders that such conduct is a criminal offence. The invaders were instructed to vacate the area with immediate effect.
Director of the Security Management Directorate Dumisani Bhengu said the City condemns land invasion in the strongest possible terms.
“This land belongs to the Municipality, and no one is authorised to build any structure on Municipal land without proper permission. Anyone continuing with the clearing and digging of the land will be arrested and will be charged for non-compliance with Municipal by-laws,” said Bhengu.
He said that in most cases, the land being invaded has pipes transporting water as well as underground fibre network. Thus, digging in the ground could affect these connections. The land is also often situated close to the road, making it unsafe to live on.
Bhengu said the invaders are breaching town planning by-laws which is a criminal offense.
“The security team will be deployed to closely monitor the situation to prevent any further unauthorised activity,” he said.
