Central and Sourthern Beaches and Zoo Reopens

ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

20 JULY 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EThekwini’s central and southern beaches are open to the public as the shark nets/ safety gear has been serviced and installed.

The beaches in the north of the uMgeni Estuary up to the oThongathi River remain closed due to contamination of the uMhlanga Estuary. The public will be advised when it is safe to use beaches in the north of the City.

The uMgeni Bird Park and Mitchell Park Zoo will reopen from 21 July. The Municipality extends its gratitude to the public for generous food donations received to sustain animals at these facilities during the unrest.

These facilities will no longer be accepting donations as more than enough food for animals was received. The surplus will be shared with similar institutions.

The public is reminded that the country is currently on lockdown alert level 4, therefore Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitising must be adhered to at all the City’s public facilities.
