Articulate Africa Book and Art Fair in Full Swing

The long wait is finally over as the Articulate Africa Book and Art Fair is now in full swing. Today will see two seminars; “God created diversity. Man created bigotry. Who do you trust?” and the “Narrative panel discussion” setting the tone for the Fair.

The first seminar will focus on religious rhetoric that has been frequently used to exclude the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community from worship. Authors Cwayita Ngamlana of the book ‘I stay right here’ and Siya Khumalo of the book ‘You have to be gay to know God’ and Pastor Roger Scholtz from the Kloof Methodist Church will delve deep into the challenges experienced in the LGBTQ community such as being denied access to religion.

They will also challenge society and religion to be more accepting of sexual diversity.

Thereafter, the focus will shift to the “Narrative panel discussion” which will target experts from the legal, political, media, entertainment and academic sector. ANC National Executive Committee Member Malusi Gigaba, University of KwaZulu-Natal Lecturer Dr Nompumelelo Thabethe, Attorney Sifiso Msomi, Actor and Producer Mandla Ngcongwane and political analyst Dumisani Hlophe will explore which narratives interest the South African audience. While unpacking the development of these narratives, they will probe what the audience base their interest on and what narratives do they buy into?

Members of the media are invited to come and cover the event, invitation is limited to two people per publication, a journalist and a photographer.
