All Systems Go for The 2020 Global Entrepreurship Week

All Systems Go for The 2020 Global Entrepreurship Week
 
In its quest to ensure that small businesses are integrated into the mainstream economy, eThekwini Municipality will host a series of business development workshops between 16 to 22 November in various areas.
 
This forms part of the commemoration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) which is celebrated worldwide in November with the aim of assisting aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs with skills and knowledge to grow their businesses.
 
The highlight of the week-long programme will be a two-session business engagement to be hosted on 19 November at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
 
The morning session will discuss lessons and insights on coping with Covid-19 and its aftermath and will deliberate on what strategies businesses can adopt going forward. The midday business engagement session will tackle e-commerce emerging trends and the future of e-commerce, post Covid-19.
 
The morning session will feature prominent panellists, including Max Mqadi, founder and owner of Max’s Lifestyle, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Icebolethu Group Nomfundo Mcoyi, Executive Chairman of Edison Power Group Vivian Reddy, President of Toyota South Africa Nigel Ward and Chief Executive of KZN Oils and RR Group Executive Chairman Rajen Reddy.
 
The line-up for the midday session will include Trend Analyst and Founder of Flux Trends Dion Chang, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer at Dropstore Pty Ltd Adewale Adejumo, Eleni Kwinana, the Executive Head at Vodacom KZN and Laduma Ngxokolo, founder of MaXhosa Africa.
 
On 17 November, furniture making skills development training will be held at Umkhumbane Entrepreneurial Support Centre while a Ward 94 business empowerment session will take place at the KwaMakhutha Community Hall.
 
Running concurrently, a Pottery product development workshop will be hosted at Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) offices located at 127 Johannes Nkosi Street, Durban and a Cooperative Development and Access to Finance engagement will be held at KwaMashu Hall, C Section.
 
On 18 November, a south regional Cooperative Development and Access to Finance engagement will be facilitated at Nsimbini Hall as well as the Ward 12 business empowerment workshop at the KwaNdengezi Community Hall. An entrepreneurship seminar will be held at the Clermont Auditorium and a business linkages session will take place at Umkhumbane Entrepreneurial Support Centre Innovation Co-Lab.
 
Furthermore, on 19 November, a Ward 102 business empowerment workshop will be hosted at the Cornubia Retail Centre and a Business Licensing Compliance Workshop will be held at Tongaat Hall, along with pottery product development at SEDA as well as a Cooperative Development and Access to Finance engagement to be held in the western part of Durban at Clermont Auditorium Hall.
 
On 20 November, a Pricing and Costing training will take place at Pinetown Civic Centre and a tax compliance workshop for rural and township small, medium and micro enterprises will be held at Emgodini Community Church in Lamontville. With the aim of boosting sales of products of local designers, the Municipality will on same day host the Durban Fashion Fair Emporium activation at uMlazi Mega City.
 
EThekwini Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda said: “Our sincere commitment in developing local entrepreneurs by presenting investment opportunities, market access and providing much needed knowledge will be evident during the GEW week-long programme. We have partnered with reputable private companies such as Vodacom, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry to name a few, who will be on site sharing their expertise. This has the potential of unlocking many opportunities for people.”
