Preparations are at an advanced stage, and the City, in partnership with various sport organisations are working towards promoting sport development and unearthing hidden talent.
The games were launched in 1998 and have produced household names likes Comrades Marathon multiple winner, Bongumusa Mthembu and football players including Siyabonga Sangweni, Siyabonga Nkosi, Amanda Dlamini and Veronica Phewa.
All district municipalities will be participating in 16 sport codes to be played in sports facilities across the City.
“The City will host over 4100 participants from districts municipalities who will showcase their talent. This is a life changing opportunity for our residents and it demonstrates that the City is ready to host much more complex sporting events. I hereby make an undertaking that we will continue to invest immensely in sports infrastructure. The City has invested over R50 billion in infrastructure, through the Parks,

“It is pleasing to report that the unit responsible for hosting SALGA games has ensured that the facilities are in good condition and meets critical specifications stipulated to host such games,” said Thembinkosi Ngcobo Head of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit.
Ngcobo said the City is excited to host the games as they help stimulate the local economy with about 1 200 jobs expected to be created.
