3rd AFUS Learning Exchange
EThekwini Municipality (City of Durban) as the Chair and Secretariat for Africa Forum for Urban Safety (AFUS) in partnership with United Cities and Local Government – Africa, UN Habitat and Department of Human Settlements, South Africa hereby invite members of the media to attend and participate in the coming 3rd AFUS Learning Exchange.
AFUS will take place from 10-12 November 2019. As one of the key United Nations Habitat programmes the Learning Exchange will look at sharing best practices to support and capacitate cities to promote safety in our cities. The event will see 300 leaders from the African continent gathering to discuss issues of urban safety with a special focus on gender-based violence and safety of women in cities.
The Learning Exchange on the opening day will be hosted as per the following details:
Session 1
OFFICIAL AFUS OPENING
Launch of the Safety Audit Report and the Mayor’s Action Campaign.
Venue: City Hall, Main Auditorium
Time: 14:30
Session 2
SAFER CITY FOR WOMEN IS SAFER CITY FOR ALL
The Learning Exchange is hosted as part of the strategic programme of the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders.

Session 3
MAYORAL SAFETY NIGHT WALK
Mayor’s Safety Night Walk (transect walk) in Priority Neighbourhood with Local Leadership, UN-Habitat Leadership, RSA Ministers.
Time: 18:00 TO 19:00
Day two and three will take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre starting at 8:30
